Established in 1975, Bow Wow stands as a trailblazing force in the realm of Japanese rock. The original lineup featured the virtuoso combination of guitarist and vocalists Kyoji Yamamoto and Mitsuhiro Saito, alongside bassist Kenji Sano and drummer Toshihiro Niimi, marking them as pioneers in the Japanese metal scene. Their musical journey took flight with the release of nine studio albums, a testament to their early prominence.
However, in 1983, a pivotal moment occurred with Saito's departure, prompting a transformation. Embracing a more mainstream sound, Bow Wow evolved, enlisting lead vocalist Genki Hitomi and keyboardist Rei Atsumi. This marked the genesis of their reinvention as Vow Wow. The band set sail for new horizons, relocating to England in 1986. A year later, Sano bid farewell, making way for former Whitesnake bassist Neil Murray, an addition that brought a distinctive flair to their sonic tapestry.
As the winds of change continued, Murray ventured to join Black Sabbath, leading studio bassist Mark Gould to contribute to Vow Wow's final album before their disbandment in 1990.
The resilient spirit of Bow Wow, however, could not be extinguished. In 1995, Yamamoto orchestrated the rebirth of Bow Wow with an entirely new lineup. The trio was solidified when original members Saito and Niimi reunited in 1998, infusing a sense of nostalgia into their renewed musical endeavor.
In 2015, Niimi bid adieu to the stage, paving the way for the group's current iteration, known as Bow Wow G2. The nomenclature pays homage to the two guitarists who stand as the sole official members. A testament to enduring passion and musical evolution, Bow Wow G2 continues to leave an indelible mark on the landscape of Japanese rock.
BOWWOW member Toshihiro Niimi passed away on May 27, 2023 at the age of 66
1975年に設立され、Bow Wowは日本のロックシーンでの開拓的な存在となっています。オリジナルメンバーには、ギタリストでヴォーカリストの山本恭司と斉藤光浩の見事なコンビネーションがあり、ベーシストの佐野研二とドラマーの新見俊宏も加わり、これらのメンバーは日本のメタルシーンの先駆者として位置づけられました。彼らの音楽の旅は、9つのスタジオアルバムのリリースによって、初期の著名性を示すものでした。
しかし、1983年に斉藤が脱退するという転機が訪れ、変革が始まりました。よりメインストリームなサウンドを取り入れ、Bow Wowは進化し、リードボーカリストの人見元基とキーボーディストの篤見玲を迎え入れました。これが彼らがVow Wowとして再出発する原点となりました。バンドは新たな地平線を目指し、1986年にはイギリスに移住しました。1年後、佐野は別れを告げ、かつてWhitesnakeのベーシストであるNeil Murrayが彼の後任として加わり、独自の個性を彼らの音楽の絵に加えました。
変化の風が続く中、MurrayはBlack Sabbathに参加し、スタジオベーシストのMark Gouldが1990年のVow Wowの解散前に貢献しました。
しかし、Bow Wowの不屈の精神は消えませんでした。1995年、山本はBow Wowを完全な新メンバーで再結成しました。トリオは、1998年にオリジナルメンバーの斉藤と新見が再結成し、新たなる音楽的な冒険にノスタルジアの感情を吹き込みました。
2015年、新見は舞台から別れを告げ、グループはBow Wow G2として知られる現在の形態に移行しました。その名前は、唯一の公式メンバーとして立つ2人のギタリストに敬意を表しています。絶え間ない情熱と音楽の進化の証として、Bow Wow G2は日本のロックの風景に不可欠な足跡を残し続けています。
2023年5月27日、Bow Wowのメンバーである新見俊宏が66歳で亡くなりました。
