J-pop duo The Peppers will end its activities after a decade together, vocalist and lyricist SHALA announced through her official X account on September 3—the anniversary of the unit’s formation.
In an attached statement, SHALA said the decision marks the conclusion of The Peppers as a musical unit. She did not disclose the underlying reason, explaining that the circumstances were difficult to discuss in detail. The announcement did not specify an exact closing date.
SHALA thanked listeners for attending concerts, playing the duo’s recordings and supporting the project throughout its 10-year history. She also reflected on the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and described the group’s songs and encounters with listeners as lasting personal memories.
The Peppers—also styled simply as Peppers—consists of SHALA and producer TOSHIYA. The duo’s official profile credits SHALA with vocals and lyrics, while TOSHIYA handles composition, arrangements, production and multiple instruments. Their first maxi-single, “everlasting flower,” arrived in 2017, followed by further singles, mini-albums and the 2024 full-length album “DOUBLE FLOWERS.”
Both members intend to continue making music separately. SHALA said she plans to release new material as an individual artist, carrying forward what she learned during the project. No farewell concert or final release was announced. Independent confirmation outside SHALA’s statement was unavailable at the time of publication.
