Electric Eel Shock interview

MAD JAMIE: “Kawaii is Fxxk.”

Sept 4, 2026

Rokku Sokuho – RS: What does being “HYPER NATURAL” mean to you personally?

MAD JAMIE – MJ: It’s a state that goes beyond being natural. In other words, it’s hyper-natural.

RS: You helped write every song on the album. Did that make it feel more vulnerable than your previous records?

MJ: I think so. Before, even when songs were created based on what I had shared about my feelings, I would usually receive them after they were already finished. Then, when it came time to record the vocals, I would think about how I could put my own emotions into the completed song and make it feel like mine through the way I sang it.

But with this album, I was involved in the creation of every single song from the very beginning. Because of that, my emotions are reflected much more strongly and directly in the music itself.

There were also times during the creative process when it was painful to seriously face what was going on inside me. But by looking closely at both my strengths and my weaknesses, I was able to strip everything back and express my own words and feelings in a much more raw and honest way.

That’s why I’m really happy that I was able to deliver all of that through an album called “HYPER NATURAL.”

RS: Three songs on HYPER NATURAL mention Tokyo. Which version of Tokyo connects them?

MJ: Tokyo is a place that feels incredibly bright and exciting to me, and I absolutely love it. Every day is chaotic, but even the noise and constant energy of the city feel precious to me.

It’s been about nine years since I left my hometown and moved to Tokyo to chase my dreams. Tokyo has witnessed so many different emotions of mine, and at the same time, it has also taught me emotions I had never known before.

It’s also the place where MAD JAMIE was born, so Tokyo is filled with so many things that are absolutely essential and precious to my life.

If you ever come to Tokyo, please visit Shibuya Chelsea Hotel, the live house where MAD JAMIE was born!

RS: MAD JAMIE used to unleash an impressive number of FxxK-bombs, but lately the bombardment has eased off. Why? My sidekick in my radioshow and I miss it!

MJ: The number of song titles has gone down, but the quality of the FxxKs has gone up, right? That’s your answer.

RS: Since “FUCK” consists almost entirely of one word, is it the purest MAD JAMIE song ever written?

MJ: You could say that. Fxxk is a symbol of MAD JAMIE. I’m happy that we can deliver such a pure, concentrated form of Fxxk.

RS: Your recent international collaborations include “悟り (Satori)” with the German post-hardcore band The Edge Of Reason and “月が見えなくても愛して” with NEBELHAUS, while your connection with KimiiroProject reaches back to your early career—including your appearance on their 2022 single “Sore ga Ai Nanda.” Do these collaborations represent a new international path for MAD JAMIE, or are they a natural continuation of the musical relationships you have built over the years?

MJ: Rather than a new direction, it felt more like a new kind of inspiration. Creating something with someone else is always exciting and rewarding.

RS: What must another artist bring to make you say yes to a collaboration?

MJ: Pure passion and respect.

RS: You turned a frightening unexplained illness into “Abduction.” Does humour help you reclaim difficult experiences?

MJ: I don’t think painful experiences are something you simply overcome. I think it’s about accepting the pain and the scars as precious parts of who you are. And I think it’s a wonderful thing to be able to express those experiences with a sense of humor.

RS: Did your throat surgery change how you sing or protect your voice on tour?

MJ: Once I’m on stage, I can’t think about holding anything back! No matter what happens, I’ll keep singing with everything I’ve got.

RS: “Cinderella Night” explores your cuter side. Was lowering MAD JAMIE’s attack level difficult?

MJ: If we made you think our attack power had gone down, then that’s exactly what we were aiming for. But you’ll get taken out pretty quickly by the hidden poison in this song, won’t you?

The only time MAD JAMIE lowers its attack power is when we die. Remember that.

RS: What qualities must someone possess to earn the title “QUEEN of KAWAII PUNK”?

MJ: There is only one QUEEN. The only qualification is being MAD JAMIE.

RS: Has touring Europe changed what “Udagawacho IDOL PUNK ROCK” means to you?

MJ: From Udagawa to Europe. Next stop: from Europe to the moon. That’s the vibe.

WE LOVE IDOL PUNK ROCK! Our dream is to play a live show on the moon! Remember that.

RS: MAD JAMIE is your solo project, but the band-style shows hit differently. Which format feels most complete?

MJ: Isn’t being “complete” kind of boring? We have both styles, and that’s why we can always keep being at our best.

RS: After performing 27 consecutive shows, what did you learn about your limits?

MJ: From the fifth day onward, it felt like every day was still day five, and before I knew it, it was all over.

I learned that I don’t have limits—but things like pain and sadness do. Though honestly, rather than “learning,” I was mostly just having fun.

It was the most insanely fun 27 days.

RS: After HYPER NATURAL, what part of MAD JAMIE do you want to push beyond normal next?

MJ: I want to keep challenging myself, push everything I can beyond its limits, and become a life form that transcends humanity.

Because that’s what it means to be a superstar.

RS: Thank You. ( Handing over a special made Dalahorse as a gift )
