Avant-garde black metal mutates into progressive psychedelic extreme metal as Sigh unleash Unputenpu (運否天賦)—literally “Entrusting One’s Fate to Heaven.” Formed in 1989/90 as cult black-metal trailblazers, Sigh have spent the following decades treating genre boundaries like minor clerical errors, and this new transmission again mixes old-school extremity with prog rock, psychedelia, classical architecture and horror-film delirium.
The track features a guest guitar solo from Opeth mastermind Mikael Åkerfeldt, adding another tentacle to an already gloriously overqualified sonic organism. Unputenpu appears as the sixth track on the forthcoming album Goh-ka, due September 4 via Peaceville Records. The album also features Kreator’s Frédéric Leclercq on bass and Mike Heller on drums.
Built around Buddhist kusōzu imagery depicting the nine stages of bodily decomposition, Goh-ka turns mortality into a nearly hour-long progressive-metal autopsy report. This is pure Sigh mythology with the philosophical difficulty slider locked on nightmare mode.
