Traditional heavy metal and NWOTHM fire up their twin-lead engines as Coven Japan march into Promised Land, an eight-track second album forged from NWOBHM steel, 1970s hard-rock rivets and unmistakably Japanese melodic circuitry. The riffs arrive with passports stamped by Angel Witch, Satan and Mercyful Fate, but the bilingual lyrics and anime-song sense of heroic drama prevent this from becoming mere retro-metal archaeology. It is less a nostalgic museum tour and more a samurai charge conducted through two harmonized guitar amplifiers.
Released through No Remorse Records on July 24, Promised Land follows the 2023 debut Earthlings and includes Samurai Rising, Eternal Oath and the title track. Tomas “Witchfinder” Ericson of Helvetets Port and Niels Bang of Animalize appear as guest vocalists, adding extra traditional-metal hit points before the band’s October 2026 European tour.
