Rock duo ヨルシカ (Yorushika) revisit a particularly light-fingered corner of their catalogue with the live video for 昼鳶 (Hirutonbi)—literally “Daytime Kite,” but an old expression for a daytime burglar. Ornithology students, check your wallets.
Originally featured on their 2020 concept album 盗作 (Tousaku — “Plagiarism”), the song explores its fictional music thief’s earlier days burgling homes. The instrumental fingerprints are equally revealing: n-buna built the recording around acoustic slap guitar, even visiting a manufacturer to find an instrument with the low-end resonance he wanted. Against that percussive framework, suis explores her lower register—a quietly menacing delivery that makes the storytelling feel uncomfortably close. A song about theft with this much attention to its own craftsmanship? That is the delicious contradiction.
