Alternative idol rock takes a wrong turn out of Eden with メランコリック少女物語 (Melancholic Cinderella Story) and 失楽園 (Shitsurakuen, “Paradise Lost”), released September 26 through RINrecords. The title neatly punctures the fairy-tale promise of their name: Cinderella gets a story, but apparently paradise comes without a warranty. Against the group’s established dark-rock identity and ’90s Visual Kei aesthetic, that collision of fantasy and disillusionment makes an apt introduction to their latest chapter.
