Instrumental guitar explorer Ichika Nito turns down the metronome’s blood pressure with 残火 (Zanka / Ember), a slow instrumental single released September 25. Literally “remaining fire,” the title marks a small discography milestone: Ichika says this is his first track given a Japanese title. Shin Sakiura contributes co-arrangement, with Kenichi Koga handling mixing and mastering. For a musician whose influences span Bill Evans, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Iron Maiden, a quieter flame fits the vocabulary. Even fretboard sorcerers understand that the sustain knob deserves a solo.
