Japanese fantasy-metal storytellers FATHOMLESS SKYWALKER return with the powerful new single “酒神楽 – SAKE KAGURA – (feat. Kaeru Hakase / “Professor Frog”)”, a track that fuses modern metalcore with ritualistic atmosphere and deep-rooted Japanese symbolism. Known for their lore-driven universe and theatrical arrangements, the band leans fully into myth and ceremony this time—delivering a song that feels less like a standalone single and more like a sacred rite set to distortion and double kicks.
The title 酒神楽 (Sakekagura) translates loosely to “Sake Ritual” or “Dance of the Sake God,” referencing traditional Shinto kagura—ceremonial music and dance performed for the gods. That concept is brought vividly to life through the guest appearance of かえるはかせ (Kaeru Hakase / “Professor Frog”), a Japanese indie character-vocalist known for folk-leaning, chant-like vocals and a playful festival persona. Rather than a conventional guest singer, かえるはかせ functions as a ceremonial narrator, adding matsuri-style energy and folkloric flavor that amplifies the song’s ritualistic mood and divine intoxication theme.
Musically, “SAKE KAGURA” balances crushing metalcore riffs with operatic and symphonic touches, blending aggression and celebration into a uniquely Japanese fantasy-metal hybrid. It’s a track that thrives on contrast—chaos and reverence, heaviness and humor—firmly establishing FATHOMLESS SKYWALKER as one of Japan’s most imaginative metal acts.
